Keep Your Child Safe and Sound in Your Volkswagen

Whether it’s dashing to daycare or going to the grocery store, many parents know what it feels like to bolt out of the house, child in tow. When you finally make it to the car, shoes tied and snacks packed, you quickly strap your little one into their car seat and drive away. But is your kid properly and safely strapped in?
If you drive a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta or a 2016 Volkswagen Passat or one of our other incredible Volkswagen models, our dealers at Byers Volkswagen want to ensure that your child is kept safe and sound. That is why using the appropriate car safety seat in the proper manner is so important. These seats reduce the risk of fatal injury in infants and children by up to 71 percent.

Car Seat Safety Installation
· Make sure the car seat base is securely tightened.
· Angle it as directed by the manufacturer to prevent your child’s head from dangerously flopping forward.
· Make sure there is adequate spacing between the front seat and the car seat.
· Check the harness straps that they slip through the height-appropriate harness slots.
· The harness clips should be level with the child’s armpits.

As your child grows, it is equally vital to get them the appropriate car seat for their age, weight, and height.
· Rear Facing Child Seat: Ages 0 – 2, less than 30 pounds
· Rear Facing or Forward Facing Child Safety Seat: Ages 2 – 4, up to 40 pounds
· Booster Seat: Ages 4 – 8, less than 57 inches tall
· Vehicles Seat Belt: Ages 8 – 17, more than 57 inches tall
