The Volkswagen Tiguan Grows Up

It's no secret that crossovers have become an important part of the typical automaker's lineup. Demand for these vehicles continues to rise, which is why the Volkswagen brand is working on a new and improved version of the capable Volkswagen Tiguan. The second-generation of this crossover will have its official unveiling at next month's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but we already know a few details about this new model.

Everyone here at Byers Volkswagen already loves the Volkswagen Tiguan. It looks like there will be more to love when the 2018 model arrives. The big change coming to this compact SUV is an extended wheelbase. By stretching the wheelbase by a few inches and adding more length to this crossover, Volkswagen engineers can add a third row of seating. That's right, the new Volkswagen Tiguan will be able to sit up to seven people comfortably.

This new car will also receive some other tweaks. It will come equipped with an updated variant of Volkswagen's EA888 turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, which will produce more than 180 horsepower while offering more torque and better fuel efficiency than the previous engine. According to the automaker, the updated version of this crossover will also offer a 44 percent increase in cargo space. An improved infotainment system and eight-inch touchscreen are also possible additions. We can't wait to learn more about this car next month!
