ID.4 vs Atlas: Utility & Comfort

Right away, the size difference between the ID.4 and the Atlas is obvious. With 99.9 cubic feet of passenger volume, you can comfortably tote up to five people in the VW ID.4 while the Atlas seats up to seven in three rows and boasts over 150 cubic feet of passenger space. The ID.4 gives you an immense amount of cargo room with 30.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 64.2 cubic feet with the rear seats laid flat. Of course, the Atlas is larger and provides a maximum of 96.8 cubic feet in cargo space with all of the seats flat.

A ten-color ambient lighting system is standard or upgrade trim levels for a stunning thirty-color display with pre-set moods that are controlled by a convenient slider bar found in the infotainment system's display. ID.4 vs Atlas: Technology

The ID.4 is as close to a futuristic vehicle as you can find at this price point in 2021. Almost all of the technology inside is controlled either by touch or voice. The standard Discover Pro infotainment system comes with a ten-inch display touchscreen that's angled towards the driver or you can upgrade trim levels for Discover Pro Max and a massive twelve-inch display. Natural voice control is standard on the ID.4; all you have to do to activate it is say, "Hello ID." Wireless charging is standard as are Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capabilities.

The Atlas offers the MIB2 infotainment system as standard fare with a tablet-like 6.5" touchscreen display. Upgrade trim levels for an 8'' display and navigation. 5 USB ports are scattered throughout the cabin for convenient device charging or you can upgrade trim levels for wireless charging. You also have the option of upgrading to a premium sound system for an exhilarating musical experience.

ID.4 vs Atlas: Performance

The 2021 Atlas offers two different powertrains. The base model comes with a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes a steady 235 horsepower and 258 lb/ft of torque. The 3.6L VR6® engine is more powerful, offering an output of 276 horsepower. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for maximized efficiency and while front-wheel drive is standard, 4MOTION® all-wheel drive is available on either engine option.

Volkswagen is returning to its roots with the ID.4, placing the electric motor in the rear like the Beetles of old. This motor transfers torque to a two-stage, one-speed gearbox and offers ideal handling and traction and is nearly silent. This electric SUV generates an impressive 201 horsepower and 229 lb/ft of torque. The ID.4 can get a range of up to 250 miles on a single charge and get up to 89 MPGe on the highway. Charging at home or on a level 2 public charger will get you to full charge in about 7.5 hours while a quick charge can get you from 5-80% charged in under 40 minutes.

ID.4 vs Atlas: Safety

While the ID.4 is too new to be rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS yet, you can rest assured that this innovative SUV is equipped with Volkswagen's best safety features. IQ.DRIVE® is standard and includes lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel for easier driving. This system also alerts you to obstacles that have the potential to cause a collision. Front Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Dynamic Road Sign Display, and many more features are included for extra peace of mind.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2021 Atlas a five star crash safety test rating, thanks in part to the standard Volkswagen Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and Intelligent Crash Response System, both features that help reduce the risk of injury and vehicle damage in the event of an accident. Front Assist is standard on the Atlas while features such as Blind Spot Monitor, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Traffic Alert, and more, are available on higher trim levels.
