Common A/C Problems

• Clogged Cabin Air Filter – The air outside is filled with dust, pollen, mold spores, and more. And the speed of your vehicle means that a lot of these contaminants would enter the cabin if not for the cabin air filter. This filter makes sure that the air in your VW’s cabin stays free of these contaminants, but it will become clogged over time. When this happens, the A/C won’t work as well. Fortunately, this problem is fast and easy to fix.
• Refrigerant Leak – The refrigerant is what makes your air conditioning system function. As a gas, it moves through the refrigerant hoses and picks up excess heat. It then turns into a liquid, shedding the heat to create cold air. This air is then blown into the cabin by the cooling fans. If your refrigerant level is low, the system will be unable to function as it should. When you bring your VW to Byers Volkswagen for A/C service, we will check your refrigerant level. If it’s low, we will search for troublesome leaks, repair them, and then refresh your system with new refrigerant.
• Damaged A/C Compressor – The A/C compressor is responsible for compressing the refrigerant into a gas and sending it through the A/C system. Whether the compressor has been damaged or has simply worn out, it will need to be replaced. At Byers Volkswagen, we carry OEM VW compressors.
• A/C Condenser Problems – The condenser is the part of the system where the refrigerant turns into a liquid and loses its heat. A clogged condenser can sometimes be fixed simply by unclogging it, but a damaged condenser will need to be replaced.
• Cooling Fan Problems – Cooling fan issues are not very common, but they do happen, and they can be either electrical or mechanical. We can take a look and find out the problem at Byers Volkswagen.
